WordCue — Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 19, 2026

The short version

WordCue has no accounts. Your words, your likes and everything you mark as known stay on your iPhone. The app sends anonymous usage statistics so its maker can see which parts are used — nothing in them identifies you, and you can switch them off in Settings.

What stays on your device

The name you typed during onboarding, your level, interests, pace and reminder times, the words you have been shown, the ones you liked, and the ones you marked as known. None of it is uploaded. Deleting the app deletes all of it.

What is sent

Anonymous product events:

Events carry your device model, iOS version, app version, language, time zone and a random identifier the app generates for itself.

Invites

So you can invite friends, the app gets a random invite code from WordCue's invite server the first time it opens. The server keeps that code, a random key the app signs in with, when the app was installed, its version and language, how many friends came with your invite and whose invite you came with — nothing about you. When someone opens an invite link, the server keeps a salted one-way hash of their network address for up to 3 days, so the app installed from that page can be matched to the invite, and then deletes it. The invite server runs on Cloudflare, Inc., acting only on instructions from WordCue.

What is never sent

Your name. Your IP address — analytics discard it rather than store it, and the invite server keeps only the short-lived hash described above, so there is no location of any kind, coarse or precise. No advertising identifier, no Apple ID, no contacts, no microphone or camera data. WordCue does not track you across other apps or websites, and shares nothing with data brokers or advertisers.

Who processes it

PostHog Inc., a product-analytics provider, on servers in the United States, acting only on instructions from WordCue. They are not permitted to use the data for their own purposes.

Turning it off

Settings → Privacy → Anonymous analytics. Once off, the app stops sending events immediately and stays that way until you turn it back on.

Keeping and deleting

Anonymous events are kept for up to 12 months and then removed. Because they are not linked to any account, name or device identifier, they cannot be traced back to you — which also means they cannot be singled out for individual deletion. Deleting the app stops all collection at once.

Children

WordCue is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect anything from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date above changes with it and the new text appears in the app under Settings → Privacy → Privacy policy.
